IMPHAL, April 16: In a shocking incident a man was killed by a mob after he allegedly killed his own wife and son at Phoijing Awang Chingjin under Nambol police this evening.
The man identified as Nongmaithem Ratan, 41, an alleged mentally retarded person attacked his wife Tama, 35 with a Rikshaw axle killing her on the spot. He turned his attention to his identified as Yaiphanao who yelled on seeing the act. Yaiphanao was rushed to RIMS and was later shifted to Shija hospital. He however succumbed shortly after he was admitted at the Shija Hospitals.
His first son is said to be a student of Navodaya.
The incident happened around 6:30 this evening when Nongmaithem Ratan, 41, a mentally retarded person, attacked his wife, Tama, 35 in a fit of rage after being shut the door of their house with a Rickshaw axle, killing her instantly.
Yaiphanao, 11, was inside the house when his father attacked his mother. Ratan turned his rage to him as he alarmed, “My father is killing mother.”
The neighbours found him lying unconscious under a bed in a pool of blood following which the neighbours who broke into the house severely beaten up Ratan, causing him fatal injuries.
Yaiphanao, a student of statndard III of Nambol Bethel High School, was first brought to RIMS but later referred to Shija Hospitals where he succumbed.
Ratan who has been a teacher had a story of mental illness since some three years back
The three bodies were picked up by police and brought at RIMS mortuary for autopsy.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, two persons were killed when an autorickshaw they were traveling in had a head-on crash with a speeding mini truck at Shamurou Louri Macha Lamkhai under Wangoi police station in Imphal west district.
The victims have been identified as Maisnam Ranjan alias Lukhoi, 27, son of Manglem of Hiyangthang Maning and maibam Suresh, 21, son of Sanatomba of Kakwa Huidrom Leikai.
The hit and run road mishap took place around 8:30 pm last night when a passenger autorickshaw heading towards Yumnam Huidrom hit by a 407 DI Tata mini truck, killing one passenger of the autorickshaw on the spot and wounding another seriously. The mini truck fled the scene after the accident, a police source said.
Suresh was rushed to Raj Polyclinic at North AOC here but he was pronounced dead after a brief treatment, the source added.
