IMPHAL, Apr 4: A non-local was found dead late last night near Mantripukhri AT Line Nepali Basti under Heingang police station.
Police sources said at about 6:30 am Wednesday, information was received that an unidentified dead body was lying near Mantripukhri Nepali Basti about 4 km northwest of Heingang police station following which a team of police rushed to the site and retrieved the body.
The police identified the deceased as one Hariram Jaswant, 40, son of Larjoo Prashad Jaswant of Golaghat Road, Dimapur in Nagaland based on a driving license recovered from him. However, residents of Mantripukhri said the man was from Bihar and that he used to come there, but not regularly.
Jaswant received a wound in the head believed to be caused by a club. His body has been brought to JNIMS morgue, they added.
Meanwhile, the body of Md Aboi, 23, who was reportedly lynched by an irate mob at Kounuma Hiyangkhong under Mayang Impahl police station on March 31 night has been handed over to his family after conducting post mortem at RIMS on Wednesday, a police source said.
In another incident, an unidentified dead body of a man was found at Kadangband Road under Lamshang police station in the early morning of Wednesday.
The man, who appeared to be mentally abnormal, had a fair complexion with grey hair and wore a half pant. Police recovered the body and later deposited it at RIMS morgue, a police source informed.
