IMPHAL, April 21: Tightening the noose on tinted glass users, Imphal West district police will now conduct vigorous checks on all the vehicles which are fitted with such glass to control crimes.
Most of the crimes of kidnapping of children are committed by using tinted glass vehicles and that such glass obviously hampered detection of crimes, SP, Imphal West said in a statement on Saturday.
Using of tinted glass vehicles violates Section 109 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and Rule 100(2) of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989, the statement said, adding that tinted glass users are punishable under Section 191 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.
Imphal West district police will conduct vigorous checks on all the vehicles which are fitted with tinted glass and punish the vehicle owners according to law, it further added.
It also said the public/ officers are requested to cooperate in the special drive being carried out by the district police.
