Power lineman succumbs to fall

IMPHAL, April 5: A linesman died after falling from a post carrying HT (High Tension) electric wire at Maharabi under Sekmai police station in Imphal west this morning.

Tonanbam Irendrajit, 32, son of (L) Kritichand of Maharabi Maning Leikai, was an assistant lineman of Manipur Electricity department.

The incident happened around 9 am when Irendrajit slipped and fell from the electric post carrying Ht electric wire about 20 ft tall, that he was trying to shift to a nearby area after cutting the electric wire in connection with a football tournament to be held at the locality. He lost balance and fell on the ground while cutting the wire, injuring him critically.

He was shifted to Catholic Medical Hospital at Koirengei but succumbed there after a brief medical treatment.

The body has been handed over to his family after post mortem at RIMS, police sources said.

Body handed over: An unidentified body of a non-local who was found dead at Kalibari in Thangal Bazaar on March 28 has been handed to Imphal Municipality on Thursday after his relatives failed to come and claim his body.

At the same time, the body of Hariram Jaswant, 40 from Golaghat in Dimapur has also been handed over to his relatives after post mortem at JNIMS on Thursday.

Jaswant was found dead at Mantripukhri Nepali Basti yesterday.
