IMPHAL, April 6: A fire this late evening gutted a 20-room rented house at Kwakeithel Thiyam Leikai in Imphal west district.
The incident happened this late evening at around 8pm.
The powerful fire reduced the house to ashes even as three fire-tenders with help from the locals tried hard to douse the fire till around 9pm.
In the meantime, two girls residing in one of the rented rooms fainted during the fire, when the fire entered the room they were staying in.
According to a woman who also stays at one of the rooms said that the fire seem to have started from the back side of the house, however the source of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
The house belongs to one Thiyam Mongol. The two girls who fainted during the inferno are identified as Pushpa from Nambol and Priya from Moirang Khunou.
Both are said to be safe now.
There has been no reports of any human casualty during the inferno.
