IMPHAL, April 21: Premier and much loved rock band of the country, Parikrama is all set to enthrall music lovers of the state once again after more than a decade on Sunday at the Yaiskul YAC ground.
The famed rock band will be headlining the Nokia Yaoshang Rock Fest 2012 which will feature other bands like Shades of Retribution, a death metal band from Assam, APPLES, an all-girls rock band from Mizoram and other local bands including FRINGES, JUNE NEELU and ANGELICA.
The eleven member entourage touched down at Imphal Airport this afternoon.
The stage is all set for them to give a much expected nuclear performance at Yaiskul, YAC ground under the banner “Nokia Yaoshang Rock Fest 2012”.
The band was officially formed on June 17, 1991 in Delhi and now consists of Nitin Malik on lead vocals, Sonam Sherpa on lead guitars, Saurabh Choudhary on guitars, Subir Malik on Keyboards, Gaurav Balani as bassist, Srijan Mahajan on drums with Ashwini Mani, Sheel Patel on Tambourine.
They are accompanied by Dilip Ramchandran and Shambhu Nath, Rajat Kakkar on percussion, Shambhu Nath on Tabla, Imran Khan on violin.
The band name “Parikrama” means ‘ Orbital Revolutions’ in Sanskrit. Among the many feathers collected by the veteran rock group, it may be mentioned that Parikrama performed at Download Festival in Donington in 2007 on the same day as a warm up to Iron Maiden.
During the concert Nitin Malik, the frontman stated that they were there because Iron Maiden had requested the event organisers for them to be on the billing and it was an honour for them to return the favour of Iron Maiden who travelled to Bangalore, India in March 2007.
Again they performed with Maiden in Mumbai. And now they are the official opening band for any Iron Maiden concert in Asia.
Their main numbers includes, “Am I Dreaming, Tears of the Wizard, In the Middle,Vapourize, Whisky Blues etc.
It may be mentioned that the band is performing in the state after more than a decade. They had performed at the Bheigyachandra Open Air Theatre in 1999. That time the vocalist was not with the band, and it may be stated that this is the first time that Imphal will witness the complete band line-up.
