IMPHAL,April 4: The Maram Students’ Union, MKS considering the alleged negligence and hasty approach of repair works has ‘paused’ the ongoing work temporarily at Maram Khongnem stretch of National Highway 2 (formerly known as NH 39).

“On inspection by the students’ team the labourers were found adopting sub-standard method in mixing materials randomly meant for Wet Mix Macabam, WMM purpose(s) by a JCB machinery in its disguise to complete the work hastily,” claimed MKS in a statement.

“As per specifications, percentage of water, stone-dust, stone aggregate, etc. for WMM is to be in proportionate and properly mixed by a machinery-hot control panel.”

MKS has demanded the concern contractor to deploy proper machinery equipment and adopt the laid down specifications with skilled labourers or else cosmetics repair works shall not be acceptable.

In this connection, MKS has brought the issue to the knowledge of the concern authority and it is hoped the measure initiated by the students’ union in the best interest of the public is an eye-opener to all contractors who are hurriedly executing the repair works.

Meanwhile, Local MLA Francis Ngajokpa and additional Chief Engineer Temba of PWD has visited the ongoing works till Maram on Tuesday and minutely inspected the works. Seeing the woes of the Maram Section, NH-2 that was sunk in last year’s monsoon season, the visiting officials have directed contractor for proper drainage construction and agreed for the construction of five additional culverts at the stretch, the statement added.
