IMPHAL, April 23: The Imphal West district commandos have arrested a militant suspected to be involved in the grenade attack at the residence of a Jamadar recently. The suspect is also said to be involved in the extortion of large sums of money from the FCS department.
According to a press statement of the Imphal West SP, commandos of the district had arrested the alleged PREPAK (PRO) militant on April 22 at about 6 am form his own house.
The arrestee has been identified as Thokchom Budhachandra alias Mobi Singh, aged 46, son of (L) Thokchom Chaoba Singh of Singjamei Chinga Makha Kshetri Leikai.
It has further said that on spot verification, the arrested individual disclosed that he is working under the command of SS Commander Deban alias Khamba since three-four years. He has extorted a huge amount of money from the FCS dept and later handed it over to Deban alias Khamba, active member of the outfit, it said.
Further according to the statement, he was assigned for transportation of money from one place to another place as instructed by Deban alias Khamba and also to hurl handgrenades at the residence of one Jamadar Laishram Bikramjit Singh son of Chandramani Singh of SIngjamei Chinga Makha Chanam Pukhri Mapal as a threat for the detection of planning of IED in different places during the last 10th Legislative Assembly election, Manipur.
Two numbers of mobile handsets were recovered and seized from his possession, the statement added.
Meanwhile, a PIB press statement has informed that 33 AR under the aegis of the Red Shield Division launched an operation on April 22 in the general area of Kumbi Uyung Makhong of Bishenpur district and apprehended an alleged cadre of the UNLF.
It has further identified the arrested individual as SS Pvt Ningthoujam Thouburemba alias Amarjit Singh, 22 resident of Kumbi Uyung Makhong with army no 1859 and added the individual was involved in extortion/tax collection activities in the general area of the Kumbi.
He was later handed over to the Kumbi PS.
