IMPHAL, April 18: The 4 IRB personnel posted at ADC, Complex Kangpokpi allegedly opened fire four rounds of bullet last night at around 8 pm creating unnecessary trouble in and around the peaceful environment of Kangpokpi panicking the general public, informed a source.
The 4 IRB stationed at ADC, Complex Kangpokpi is under the command of one Punsi from Yaikongpao, Sadar Hills.
Punsi admitted in a meeting held this morning at the office of the Kangpokpi Town Committee (KTC) in the presence of KTC Chairman and Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization (KWWO) members that the bullets were accidentally fired by one of his men last night, the source informed.
He also said that the incident was very unfortunate and sought apology from the general public and the local civil organizations.
Punsi also assured that no untoward incident will happen again in the near future and proper action would be initiated to punish the guilty personnel.
A reliable source said the IRB man who created the trouble has been suspended in connection with the incident.
The Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization strongly condemned the incident, terming it as barbaric action and said the security forces stationed at Kangpokpi had disturbed the peaceful environment of the area.
The Kangpokpi Town Committee Chairman Chonkam Kipgen told the commander that this was the first time that his men had created such unwanted incident which disrupted the peaceful co-existence of Kangpokpi.
Chonkam further added, “Though the incident was very unfortunate, we accept your apology this time. But if such incident repeats in future, drastic action would be taken up according to the customary law of the Kangpokpi town administration.
