Truckers to take documentary on highway to PM

IMPHAL, April 3: A three member team of the National Highway Truck Owner Association (NHTOA) on Tuesday left Imphal for New Delhi to call on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and hold consultation pertaining to the development work undertaken along the National Highway 37 in Manipur with the help of a documentary film depicting the deplorable condition of the national highway.

This was informed by Kh Inaoba during a press conference at the union’s office here this afternoon.

The team from NHTOA which include its president Kh Inaoba Meitei, secretary Y Thoiba and Th Manitomba, a member would also submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister and apprise him on the present condition of the Imphal-Jiribam road which is also a life line of the state.

They would also urge the Prime Minister to intervene in the matter relating to the slow pace of development work being taken up on the road and issue a strong instruction to the BRO which has been entrusted with the work, he added.

Furthermore, the delegates of NHTOA would further urge him to instruct the BRO authority for early completion of the work before onset of monsoon in the interest of the state as early as possible.

He added that even though, the BRO had assured the state government that the black-topping of the highway would be completed by the year 2013, it has managed to complete only about 60% of the work, while it has still to work on the remaining stretches.
