UCM reaffirms stand to protect state integrity

IMPHAL, April 23: The United Committee Manipur (UCM) reaffirmed its stand to fully take part in various movements to protect the state integrity and unity and voiced concern over the alleged mistreatment against the rickshaw pullers by traffic police in the state.

A joint meeting of All Manipur Rickshaw Driver’s and Puller’s Welfare Association (AMRDPWA), residents including womenfolk living in the Sanjenthong area and representatives of UCM was held yesterday at the office of AMRDPWA, Sanjenthong here.

Yumnamcha Dilipkumar, president, UCM; Th Basanta Singh, president AMRDPWA; Ng Deva, secretary, UCM and Leishemba Lamaba graced the meeting as chief guest, president and guests of honour, UCM said in a statement on Monday. 

During the meeting, Yumnamcha Dilipkumar remembered the June 18 episode and underlined the importance of another firm initiative to counter all problems similar to that of the June 18 uprising of the people.

He also voiced concern over the alleged mistreatment committed by traffic police against rickshaw pullers in the state and further called upon the state government to stick traffic policy so as to stop causing hardships to the poor rickshaw pullers.

AMRDPWA pledged that it would jointly work with UCM in its movement to safeguard the integrity of Manipur.

At the same time, a branch of UCM named “UCM AMRDPWA and Sanjenthong Unit” was also set up during the meeting.
