IMPHAL, May 23: The Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council (ADC) Chairman SH Seipu was today ousted in a no trust motion, paving the ground for Vice Chairman Haokholal Hangsing to take over the Council.
The trust vote held today at at 11:30 am at the ADC Bhavan, Sangakpham here was presided over by N Subachandra, Chief Executive Officer of Sadar Hills ADC.
Chairman SH Seipu was the first to cast his vote in the motion of no confidence which began at 11:41 am followed by Vice Chairman H Hangsing and the other ADC members.
The result of the trust vote was declared at 12:15 pm.
Out of the 26 members who cast their vote in the motion only 10 went in favour of Chairman Seipu while the rest 16 votes went to Vice Chairman Hangsing who had put up the no-trust motion.
It may be recalled here that, Chairman Seipu and Vice Chairman Hangsing had been locked in a battle of nerves and muscle flexing leading to a stalemate for quite some time.
On March 21 last, Haokholal Hangsing along with Thangkhanphai village chief and ADC member Thangkan Misao and T Kholding village chief Seikholun Khongsai were reportedly abducted by suspected militants.
Allegations were also made that a vehicle which belonged to Chairman Seipu was used in the abduction.
Also yesterday on the eve of the confidence vote, one of the Kuki militant groups had allegedly threatened ADC members SK Waiphei,, Nakhujang, Anne Chongloi Khengjang, Seisat Kipton, Selsi and Chaningpokpi village chief, Seilam Khongsai , sources said.
There has been a certain divide amongst the members of the ADC with two groups of the members trading charges and counter charges of kidnappings in the past few months.
