CM to meet Power Minister today

IMPHAL, May 6: The state Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh will meet the Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and top ranking officials of the Power ministry tomorrow to seek suggestions on corporatization of the Power department in Manipur, according to informed sources here.

The Chief Minister had gone to the capital city on May 4 to attend the controversial National Counter Terrorism Council (NCTC) meeting of state chief ministers.

From New Delhi, CM Ibobi had summoned the Principal Secretary (Power) LP Gonmei and Chief Engineer (Power) N Saratkumar to assist him in meetings with the Union Power Minister and the Chairman of the Power Grid Corporation of India.

The Chief Minister met the Power Grid chief RM Nayak today at the New Delhi Manipur Bhavan located at Sadar Patel Marg and sought suggestions on corporatization of the Power department in Manipur.

The sources further said, O Ibobi Singh will be meeting top officials of the Power Ministry besides the Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde tomorrow.

Meanwhile, top officials of the state Power department had briefed the CM on the need for yearly grant of Rs 334 crores for meeting expenditures relating to purchase of power besides salaries and other expenses after corporatization on the recent cabinet meeting.

The Chief Minister had reportedly asked the officials on how much revenue they could muster up yearly while assuring them that he is ready to allocate the required amount in the state budget.

The officials had reportedly assured him that they would be able to collect Rs 180 crores as power revenue.
