IMPHAL, May 17: Amidst public concern over the recent spate of numerous crimes on woman in the state, a 16 year old girl was found dead by villagers from Awang Leikinthabi Shantipur foothills this evening at around 7pm.
Police suspect that the girl was abondoned after being raped and murdered.
Meanwhile, police have recovered a Hyundai Eon Car bearing registration no MN 01X 4705 from near the spot.
A police source has also informed that a mobile handset was found from inside the car.
The girl has been identified as Puspa Basnet daugther of Pritiman Basnet of Tees bari and was awaiting her Class XI examination rsults.
The parent of the girl has a tea stall at Nongthombam Bazar.
According to a source, the dead body of the girl seem to be abandoned after being raped and murdered by the perpetrators.
The girl was found wearing a white t-shirt and a pair of grey jeans.
According to the police source, the villagers informed the police, who arrived at the spot and picked the dead body at around 7:30pm for post mortem.
Meanwhile, with the seizure of the car and the mobile handset found inside the car, the police is confident of rounding up the suspect/s very soon.
In the meantime, in an unrelated incident, an unidentified person was found dead near a pond at Ghari Makha Leikai Loukon under Lamphel Police today at around 4:30 pm.
The dead body has begun to decompose, however no mark of injury was found on the body. The deceased person was found wearing a blue jeans and a white stripped T-shirt. The body has been deposited at RIMS mortuary for post-mortem.
