Goons involved in looting handed over to police

IMPHAL, May 25: A man involved in the looting of valuable items including gold rings and money from customers of liquor vendors in Singjamei Naorem Leikai on May 8 evening was today rounded up by locals from his residence.

He alongwith one of his accomplice was later handed over to the police.

The man has been identified as Noarem Bode, 30 son of Dolen of Kakwa Naorem Leikai.

Volunteers of Naharol Yaipha Khol and local meira paibis suspecting Bode’s involvement in the looting incident stormed his residence this morning at around 7:30am and accosted him.

During his interrogation he revealed that he alongwith his accomplice was involved in the said incident.

He further identified his accomplice as one Thongram Boinao alias Pradip alias Sanayaima son of Biren of the same locality who was also accosted by the locals and later handed over to the Singjamei PS alongwith Bode.

Meanwhile, following the May 8 incident, meira paibis of the area had banned sale of liquor and other intoxicants in the locality.

The local meira paibis had also staged a meira rally in the locality last Sunday.
