IMPHAL, May 18:  A book entitled “Highway 39: Journeys Through a Fractured Land,” authored by Sudeep Chakravorty was today released by the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University Prof H Nandakumar Sharma at the Seminar Hall of Economics Department at the varsity.

The function was chaired by Dean of Social Sciences Amar Yumnam.

Sudip Chakravorty is a journalist by profession, and his earlier book ‘Red Sun: Travels in Naxalite Country’ was widely hailed.

His latest book which was released on Friday is yet to be launched properly in mainland India. The contents of the book are entirely based on the present status of the north-east and its people.

Chakravorty said he feels a deep sense on the ignorance of other states about the region and realizes that there are widespread misunderstandings in other parts of the country about the north-east.

He said, “I have seen and witnessed Imphal when it was completely choked by National Highway 39 and I did research on the obstruction talking to the people, police and also travelled all roads used in transportation in the region, and wrote this book.”

Prof Nandakumar congratulated the author for writing such book on the north-east and its people, expressing heartfelt gratitude to Chakravorty.

He also asserted that the book should also be read by the MPs, army men and police.
