IMPHAL, May 12: Director General of ICAR Dr S Ayyappan today lauded the solar power irrigation system at the Krishak Vigyan Kendra unit at Henbung in Senapati district.
Dr Ayyappan was speaking at the inauguration of the KVK Staff Residential Complex at Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Sylvan Campus, Henbung.
It was attended among others by DC Senapati PK Jha, IAS; DDG of ICAR Dr KD Kokate; VC of Central Agriculture University Dr SN Puri; and Dr AK Gogoi, zonal project director, zone-III, ICAR, Shillong.
The ICAR DG said that he has visited a series of KVK centres, which are doing very well but he hasn’t seen this even in major agricultural districts and states.
He further said that he’ll make it a point to tell everybody, who is interested in farming and farm extension to visit the place.
The host NGO FEEDS/KVK-Sylvan submitted a memorandum to Dr Ayyappan for more funds for construction of additional quarters, small dam across a stream to store water to demonstrate the fish centre at the KVK campus and for special programs and cooperation with other ICAR institutes.
Dr S Ayyappan gave a positive response saying that they will try to include it in the 2012 plan.
Haokholet Kipgen, president, FEEDS/KVK-Sylvan, while giving the welcome address also briefed on the achievements, efforts and problems of KVK-Sylvan.
As a part of the inauguration program, KVK Staff Residential Complex, Automatic Weather Station under NICRA, Sun Tracker Solar Irrigation System and a soil testing Laboratory was also inaugurated.
