JAC demands compensation

IMPHAL, May 26: The JAC seeking ex-gratia for the next of kin of the two passengers who were killed in the Duigailong bus accident and compensation for the 20 injured persons on Saturday submitted a memorandum to the state Chief Minister to press its demands.

A team comprising of leaders of the JAC, Tamei MLA Z Kikhonbou and the families of the victims met with the Chief Minister O Ibobi at his office here this morning.

The JAC in a statement said 20 persons injured in the bus accident are now undegoing medical treatment at different hospitals  and that the bereaved families of the deceased are still suffering from the trauma in the aftermath of the tragic incident, saying the charity and solace of the state government could revive the strength of the families of the victims.

The two passengers who lost their lives in the accident are Thiudingliu Newme, 47, wife of (L) Rev Hangke Newme of Tamenglong Ward No-2, Part II. She was a IV grade (Attendant) at government TB Hospital, Tamenglong and other victim is Ningthuiliu Gonmei, 38, wife of Ninguangpou Gonmei of Sanggrungpang, Tamenglong.

The memorandum said, frequent accidents have occurred along the Tamenglong-Imphal road via Khongsang due to lack of proper attention by the concerned authorities.

It urged the CM to prevail upon the state Transport authorities to regulate strict proper rules and prohibit overloaded buses.

The JAC also demanded to pay an ex-gratia of Rs 5,00,000 each to the two victims and Rs 1,00,000 each to the seriously injured persons while Rs 50,000 each to the others who suffered minor injuries.
