IMPHAL, May 28: Lightning struck down an Assam Rifles personnel dead while leaving another recuperating from injuries at the Leimakhong Military hospital.
The incident happened yesterday evening at the 39th Assam Rifles post at Jou Khunou, Singhat sub division, Churachandpur at 3:10pm.
The dead personnel has been identified as Rifleman Chigmai Longwin (No G 3900792K), son of late Longim Longwin of Longran village, Changlang district Arunachal Pradesh. The injured is identified as Rifleman Ashwani Kumar with Rifleman No G 390104P on GD, son of (L) Missuram of Mushehra village, Mande district of Himachal Pradesh.
The two were soon lifted from their post by helicopter, however Rifleman Chigmai died at 6:10pm while Rifleman Ashwani is said to be presently out of danger and recuperating.
