IMPHAL, May 4: The Lions Eye Hospital was inaugurated today by the Governor of Manipur Gurbachan Jagat at the service centre of Lions Club of Imphal, Sangaiprou, Imphal.
Addressing the inaugural function, Governor Jagat said that no service is as great and valuable as the service for the poor, needy and less fortunate persons. The service provided by the Lions Club for the poor, needy and less fortunate groups of people is commendable.
Appreciating the services provided by Lions club, Governor Jagat further said that at the times of natural calamities lion club have been rendering valuable services to the victims and other affected persons. Today we are very happy that Lions Eye Hospital and Services Trust has successfully set up a hospital for the treatment of the eye which is considered to be one of the most important human organs.
Sharing a quote by Helen Keller, who was once a celebrity Lion and popularly known as “Angel of the Blind”, he further said that “most people who can see simply do not realize the blessing of eye sight”.
He also said it was Helen Keller who inspired and influenced Lions to take up several activities to help the visually impaired ones to restore their sight. The whole world is greatly indebted to her miraculous activities during her life time, he added.
