As his whereabouts remained unknown, Meira paibis of his locality staged sit-in-protest to denounce the arrest and disappearance today.
The sit in protest was however cut short after news about Ratan being handed over to the Bishnupur Police Station reach the women demonstrators. The demonstrators later rushed to Bishnupur.
Speaking to media persons, local meira paibi secretary, Keisham Hemabati expressed that Th Ratan is a former cadre of the UNLF and had returned to the mainstream since some time back.
She condemned the illegal operation of security forces in civil dress using vehicles without registration number.
Th Ratan was handed over to Bishnupur PS today by 10 Assam Rifles and 6/8 Gurkha Rifles.
The report submitted by the security forces said SS Lt of UNLF Thounaojam Sanajaoba, aged 38, son of Kula of Kyamgei Manning Leikai was arrested on May 22 at around 8 pm from Bishnupur Bazar and recovered one country-made pistol and three live rounds.
Meanwhile, students of MM Higher Secondary School staged a sit in protest in front of their school against a bomb attack on the school building on May 21.
Denouncing the bomb attack, the students appealed to all concerned not to repeat such threats again and to make education a free zone.
The students held placards reading “We want peace”, “What is our fault”, “Save the students”, etc.
