IMPHAL, May 11: The proscribed UNLF on Friday asserted that the gunning down of three individuals by a team of 23 Assam Rifles led by Major Hanuman posted at Nongdam in the forest near Chadong village should be an eye-opener to the families of deserters and the people in general.

In a statement signed by its senior publicity officer Ksh Yoheiba said, there could never be other destiny for those renegades who have strayed from the path of freedom movement while citing allegations by family of the victims that the three youth were handed over to the Assam Rifles for facilitating surrender.

The statement said, ‘Such traitors are often used by security forces. They are encouraged by the security forces to commit murder and extortion against the people by using the names of other insurgent groups in the state. Their longevity is determined by either their obedience or usefulness and they are simply disposed off when they have outlived their purpose.’

It also stated that Shyamkesho, the father of Laishram Nobin willingly handed his son to the security forces with a hope of getting some money, but it resulted in the death of his son. It further warned that all the deserters will be slain by security forced one after another.

UNLF reaffirmed that the revolutionary movement can never be subdued under any circumstances.
