IMPHAL, May 31: The Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) along with Sagolband Amudon Akham Leikai and local meira Paibi today jointly observed the World No tobacco Day at the Sagolband Amudon Akham Leikai community hall.
The observation was conducted under the theme “Tobacco Industry Interference”.
Speaking at the observation Churachandpur District Hospital Psychiatrist Dr N Gyaneshwor said people should not use of tobacco as it will gradually lead to higher drugs.
People start from lower addictives like tobacco before moving on to heavier drugs like heroin, he said.
Dr N Gyaneshwor said use of tobacco comes a close second to only heart ailments in killing people.
He also said only 10 percent of substance abusers managed to kick off the habit while 60 percent of them fail to do so.
Tobacco brings subsequent death in the form of various diseases affecting the lungs, heart, brain and other parts of the human body, he said.
He further appealed to all the people of the state to abstain from using tobacco.
The observation was also attended by SP Narcotics Control Bureau, (NCB) RU, Imphal RK Ibungosana, CADA president A Rabindra, Lainingthou Amudon Seba Committee secretary RK Kullachandra, Lainingthou Amudon Seba Committee, ex-president Kongbrailatpam Kunjabihari Sharma.
