Phungzathang to revisit healthcare in hill areas

LAMKA, May 11: The Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing today unveiled his plan to tour the entire hill areas with a team of doctors and see for himself the reach of health care facilities and also the state of the health centres.

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the concluding function of the 3-day Churachandpur District Level Athletic Meet 2012 at Churachandpur Public ground today.

The concluding function was attended among others by Principal Secretary (Home & Edn-S) Dr J. Suresh Babu IAS, and Director (YAS) H Deelep Singh IAS.

The sports meet was inaugurated by the DC/Churachandpur Jacintha Lazurus IAS on May 9.

The Health Minister Phungzathang applauded the efforts of the district administration and the DC for taking keen interest in developmental works as well promotion of sports for development of students’ physical fitness.

Regarding the recent theft of CT Scan instruments at the district hospital Minister Tonsing said, the culprits will not be spared at all and concerned authorities are taking up measures to reinstall new parts which will cost about Rs 7 lakhs.

He further said, efforts are on to ensure that doctors reach out to all the sick and needy poor people in the hills and far-flung areas and improved their health care facilities.

YAS Director Deelep Singh praised the sports talents of the state who have been representing other states as well in various disciplines. The nation and the world respect us for our achievements in sports, he added.

During the sports meet, as many as 910 students from 49 different schools under various blocks in Churachandpur participated in various disciplines. Such an event has been halted since the 1980s.
