Police nabs child recruiter

IMPHAL, May 24: A VDF personnel and his accomplice have been arrested by a team of Thoubal Police commandos while trying to transport a child recruit over the international border.

Identifying the two accused as PREPAK Pro workers, a police source said that the two were nabbed from Pallel Bazar around 7:20am alongwith the child recruit.

The source further informed that during interrogation the two disclosed that they were about to hand over the child recruit to the PREPAK Pro in exchange of Rs 10000. The handing over was supposed to be somewhere along the Indo-Myanmar border, the police source maintained.

Police source identified the VDF personnel as Samurailatpam Jail Sharma, 27 son of (L) Sh Gopendro Sharma of Sagolband Tera Sapam Leirak, presently attached with the Imphal West District Police and posted at Sajiwa Central Jail.

His accomplice has been identified as Nongmaithem Sandeep, 37 son of (L) Narendra of Kakching Phoushupat while the victim identified as Khundrakpam Sanjoy alias Thoiba, 16 son of Kh Muhindro Khangabok Pt III at present staying at a rented house at Sega Road Jailor Leirak Imphal, the source informed.

The father of the child is said to be a rickshaw driver.

They further divulged that they are working under the recruitment cell of PREPAK Pro under the command of one ss captain Ngakpa.

One Maruti van bearing registration number MN 01X 0856 and one Nokia Handset were recovered from their possession, the source added.
