Prepaid imposter caught

IMPHAL, May 13: Residents of Paona Bazar today caught a person for allegedly duping the general public of their money with the false promise of providing new pre-paid electricity connection.

The residents later handed him over to the City police.

The man identified as Md Yahiya, 30 son of Reya Uddin of Hatta Golapati was nabbed by the residents while he was trying to collect money from some other residents with the promise of new prepaid connection.

He was nabbed from a galli next to Jain Electrical shop at Paona Bazar.

The residents said he had been collecting a sum of Rs 200 each from the residents of the area with the promise of new prepaid connection about a month back. The man however failed to return after collecting money from several residents and as such the residents have been on the look-out for the said man.

Meanwhile L Ibochouba EE of Imphal Electrical Divn I speaking to media persons said, there had been certain news report in the local dailies since sometime back that the department has been charging extra money for the pre-paid connection.

He further added that following the said news report, he had instructed his subordinates to investigate the report and to find out the truth behind it.

Following today’s arrest of Yahiya, the truth has come out, he said before adding the department has no connection with him.

The people should be aware of the presence of such conman and remain vigil towards such man, he added.
