IMPHAL, May 16: A fire gutted three rooms of a Public Works Department residential quarter at Senapati this afternoon, a police source said.
Two rooms which housed Senapati district Transport Officer and Assistant Inspector were burned to the ground when the quarter caught fire around 3:30 pm.
However, the third room which belongs to Daiho, DSP was partially gutted in the fire as it was doused before it could spread and engulfed other rooms.
It is believed the fire was caused by an electric circuit, police said, adding that an investigation has begun to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, personnel of 5 Assam Rifles also assisted the locals and others in dousing the fire, informed a source.
