IMPHAL, May 28: A two day regional workshop on “Seed Program for North Eastern Hill States” organized by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region begins today at ICAR, Manipur Centre conference hall, Lamphelpat, Imphal.

The inauguration function was attended by Gaikhangam, Minister of Home, Tribal Affairs, Horticulture and Soil conservation, GOM, JC Ramthanga, commissioner, Horticulture/MI/MOBC, GOM, S Rajendra Prasad, director, Directorate of Seed Research, Mau and Dr SV Ngachan, director, ICAR Complex, Umiam, as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.

Speaking at the function Gaikhangam said the farmers of the region must adopt cooperative farming, integrated farming system specially for increasing the productivity, efficiency and multiple livelihood with given due importance on the six pillar of the agriculture (soil, water, climate, seed, farmer and financial intermediaries too).

He also advised the system to replace the hybrid seed for every year and non-hybrid seed for every three years and the concept of seed village model must be introduced with all the efforts and collaboration from different sector.

He requested the ICAR and CAU to take a major initiative role to do the things in collaboration with the line department.
