State police nabs 8 militant suspects

IMPHAL, May 27: State police teams have arrested eight alleged militants during separate operations from the state since May 26.

According to a press statement of the Imphal West district police, based on specific information provided by 9th Assam Rifles, IW district commandos arrested two active members of the proscribed KCP (Lamyanba Khuman) from near the Southern gate of DC Complex, Lamphel and Noremthong Khumanthem Leikai today at around 11:45 am.

The statement has further identified the two as Laishram Rana Singh, 43 son of (L) Ibohal Singh of Nagamapal Chungkham Leirak and Maisnam Kabi, 38 son of M Brajamani of Naremthong Khumanthem Leikai.

One mobile handset, a sum of Rs 5000/- and one live round of M20 ammunition were seized from the possession of accused Laishram Rana Singh, it added.

Meanwhile, according to a statement of the Imphal East SP, Kamei Angam Romanus on May 26 at 6:30pm, CDO teams of the district led by Dy SP (CDO) IE under the supervision of Addl SP (ops) IE M Rajen Singh apprehended one Mairembam Ibobi Singh, 68 of Kongba Nongthombam Leikai based on credible information.

The statement has further identified Ibobi as the father of one Mairenbam John Singh of KCP (City Meitei) who was released from the Sajiwa Central jail on October 7, 2009.

From his disclosure, district cdo teams further arrested three active members of the KCP (Lamyanba Khuman), the statement said.

It has further identified the three as Kamala Rai, 38 wife of Narendra Rai of Kanglatongbi Bazaar Board, Laishram Bira Singh, 35, son of L Mono Singh and Thounaojam Khamba Singh, 38 son both of (L) Th Angou of Awang Khunou Mayai Leikai.

Three Chinese hand grenades with detonators, eight demand letters of KCP (MC), 25 rounds of .32 ammunitions ans one Nokia mobile handset were seized from them, the statement continued.

During further interrogation, Ibobi disclosed that while his son (John of KCP City Meitei faction) was in Sajiwa Central, he had contacted the members of KCP (Lamyanba Khuman) group for financial assistance at which the outfit handed a sum of Rs 50000 through one unidentified person, the statement informed.

Further according to the statement, he disclosed that he started working under duress for KCP (Lamyanba Khuman) as he was unable to repay the money.

Meanwhile, on May 27 at around 9:45am, a team of the district cdo arrested one Moirangthem Telheiba alias Robert, 22 son of M Tomei Meitei of Pangei Yangdong Bazar an active member of KCP (Chingkheinganba) from Pangei bazar, the statement added.

The district cdos also arrested one KYKL (Oken) active member from Lamlai near Lamlai High School today at 10:30am, identified as Khaidem Yaima Singh alias Suraj, 19 son of Kh Ito Singh of Pundongbam Makha Leikai, the statement said.
