IMPHAL, May 26: A powerful Chinese hand grenade hurled by suspected militants exploded at the courtyard of a Block Development officer (BDO) at Bidyanagar under Jiribam Police Station, Imphal East on Saturday.
Police sources said the incident occurred around 7:15 pm when unidentified assailants attacked the residence of Chanabam Mineshwor, BDO, Jiribam. The assailants also fired one round at the residence, but no one was injured in the attack.
KCP (Noyon) group has reportedly demanded Rs five lakh to the BDO, they added.
In another unrelated incident, suspected militants placed a hand grenade at the courtyard of Dr Laishom Amukhomba at Moirang Phiwangbam Laikai under Moirang Police Station, Bishnupur district, a police sources said.
The source said the bomb, which was planted around 9:30 last night, was removed by police and that a sit-in protest was also staged at the locality condemning the incident.
