IMPHAL, May 9: The act of vandalising the residence of Chadong Headman and life attempt on Job Kasar; acting village headman of Chadong village Yaomi Kasar was decried at a press briefing today at Nagaram this evening.
Briefing media persons, he alleged that around 6:30pm of May 8, former village secretary MH Kahaoshang along with some of his associates under the influence of alcohol arrived at the residence of Job Kasar and assaulted him at his own residence.
Further elaborating on the incident, he said that the village which once used to be a peaceful village is now divided into groups after the defeat of a NPF candidate in the recent state election, with Kahaoshang and Job Kasar supporting different candidates.
Another factor could be the failure of the Maphithel Dam Affected Village Organization’s failure to chalk out the compensation issue of the dam affected villages with the government resulting into Job Kasar’s and some others forming their own body to talk with the government on the issue, he said.
He added that out of the six dam affected villages four have already received their share of compensation from the government, while the remaining two including Chadong village are yet to received their compensation for which the MDAVO is holding talks with the government.
However, with almost 90 percent of the dam construction completed, certain individuals who have lost their faith in the organization including Job Kasar had formed their own organization to talk with the government on the issue of compensation, he added.
Coming back to last night’s incident, he alleged that Khahaoshang and his associates arrived and kicked open the front door of Job Kasar’s residence and forced themselves inside the house.
Without any reasoning, the miscreants started beating up Job Kasar and left him black and blue, he further alleged.
Kasar’s family members staying here in Imphal were informed about the incident late last night at around 10pm.
After receiving the news, they further reported it to the concerned police through the telephone and rushed to Chadong village yesterday itself, he further briefed the media persons.
After reaching Chadong village, they brought back the injured Job Kasar to RIMS where he is presently undergoing treatment, he added.
Later at around 2:30am after Job Kasar had been evicted to the hospital and arrival of police at the incident spot, one of the accused in Job’s assault, identified as Benjamin Kashung assaulted one Paraitham for helping Job Kasar, for which Benjamin was picked up by the police for further interrogation on the incident, he added.
He also alleged that soon after Benjamin was picked up by the police, Kahaoshang arrived with his associates and further dismantled both the residences of village headman Wungnaoshang Kasar and Job Kasar’s and kidnapped two teenage daughters of Job Kasar.
The two teenagers were later released this evening.
Meanwhile, the acting village headman and secretary of Chadong village has filed a written complaint to the OC Litan PS requesting arrest of MH Kahaoshang and his 12 accomplice for the said incidents of rampaging the village headman’s house and beating Job Kasar.
