Works Min satisfied with NH 39 condition

IMPHAL, May 18: Works Minister Dr Khumujam Ratankumar Singh today inspected the Manipur portion of National Highway 39 along with IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip and Rural Development Minister Francis Ngajokpa.

The minister was impressed with the overall condition of the highway with certain reservations of the quality of the maintenance work on portions of the highway.

A host of top ranking engineers of the state PWD also accompanied the Works Minister on his first official tour of the Imphal-Dimapur Road.

The minister had earlier toured the controversial Imphal-Jiribam Road twice.

Briefing the press at Senapati Minister Ratankumar said, “The government has terminated the work order given to a Dimapur based agency for a portion of the highway owing to poor quality work. A case is pending in the court.”

“While waiting for a verdict of the court the Works department had issued work order to about contractors for maintenance of certain stretches of the highway,” he added.

The minister instructed top engineers of the department to pull up contractors for poor quality on certain stretches of the highway.

Dr Ratankumar went up to the point bordering Nagaland in Mao and instructed PWD officials to restore the welcome gate to its original position.

The ministers were honored by members of the Mao Town Committee with a token presentation of traditional scarves at the Mao gate.

Town officials requested the Works Minister for widening the road in Mao town. The minister also inspected possible sites for an integrated check post at Mao.
