IMPHAL, May 7: Newly inducted Works and Transport minister today showed his displeasure with the BRO officials over the development of the construction work along the National Highway 37 Imphal to Jiribam stretch and further instructed them to maintain quality while undertaking the works.
He further demanded a proper written copy of the action plan for the highway from the BRO at the earliest.
The minister who was on his maiden inspection visit of the highway as the related minister showed disappointment with the works taken up by the BRO along the Awangkhul to Jiribam road stretch of the highway.
He was accompanied by Principal Secretary, Works Ram Muivah, Chief Engineer, Works, BRO officials, representatives of Tansporters and Drivers Council, Manipur, ICHAM and media persons.
Further showing his displeasure with the works, he instructed the BRO officials to expedite the black topping of the NH stretch and to maintain quality at the same time.
He further instructed the officials to finish the black topping of the highway stretch before the arrival of the Monsoon and before further complaints from the general public over the condition of the highway.
Later during the inspection visit, he found labourers of the BRO blacktopping at the Kanbiron stretch of the highway.
The minister stopped and went down to inspect the blacktopping and found it to be substandard.
When asked about the reason, the BRO authorities answered that the highway stretch was black topped only last year in October, however due to the heavy vehicles plying along the highway, the black topping had to be done again this year.
Unsatisfied with the reply, he told the BRO officials to maintain quality in the black topping.
The minister further inspected the Jiribam-Tipaimukh road.
Later in the evening, the minister was supposed to preside over a meeting which was to be attended by Principal Secretary, Works Ram Muivah, Chief Engineer, Works, BRO Officials, representatives of Tansporters and Drivers Council, Manipur, ICHAM
