IMPHAL, June 19: The Indigenous Democratic Front, (IDF) has on Tuesday alleged that the all the members of Autonomous District Council (ADCs) have gone into hiding fearing reprisal from the rebel NSCN and it is affecting their normal functioning.
Representatives of IDF today submitted a representation to the state Governor urging him to take notice on the non-functioning of the elected Members of ADCs and to address the grievances of the people caused by these threats, P Khamkhanthoum, secretary of IDF told reporters at the Manipur Press Club here.
He said leaders of IDF met with Governor Gurbachan at Raj Bhavan this afternoon during which the Governor assured them that their demands were genuine and that he would try to meet them at the earliest.
“All the elected members of ADCs have now put themselves out of sight because they are afraid of NSCN hiding at Khuman Lampak in Imphal,” the IDF secretary accused.
He also appealed to the ADC members to work sincerely in the interest of the public.
Since the ADC elections held on June 2, 2010, all the elected members have fled the hills and have been staying in Imphal because of the fear of reprisal from NSCN, he further alleged. He also charged the insurgent group that it has disrupted the functioning of the ADCs since the declaration of the election results.
Calling attention of the state government to end the impasse at the earliest, P Khamkhanthoum expressed concern on the possible outcome of the charged scenario.
He also said the ADCs Members would voluntarily resign en masse if they are not able to execute or perform their own duties.
