Body formed to check escalating price

IMPHAL, June 17: To curb business monopoly and check the escalating price rate of essential commodities in the state, a collective body titled ‘Peoples Price Monitoring Body’ has been formed recently to address the issues.

Informing media at a press held at Marxism Learning Centre, RIMS road today, president of All Manipur Intellectual Forum, Ch Gopal said that the body has been formed in the interest of the public, mainly the underprivileged classes.

“We have initiated this body in the interest of the commons, no longer should we be victimized by the neo-liberalist policy,this business terrorism must be checked”, he said.

Further, he mentioned that price rise in the state may be attributed to factors such as economic blockades and bandhs, as the price was up in the circumstances, the prices never failed to come down post the disruptions.

Stating the need of a monitoring body to check the business community and further to prepare the state of the globalization phenomena which would be prevalent in the state after the completion of the Trans-Asian highway and the Look East Policy of the nation,Gopal added that the state has to prepare itself for the economic changes and at the foremost, to check the escalating prices.

The body will conduct awareness campaigns which will inform the public about their consumer rights and further to tackle the economics perpetrated by the traders.

In the regard, the general secretary of the Intellectual Forum, W Priyokumar also appealed to the public not to move the state administration in the form of a public interest litigation as it may deter the proceedings of the Peoples Price Monitoring Body.
