Bridges over Makru swept away

IMPHAL, June 27: Several civil bodies of the Tousem Sub-Division, Tamenglong district has today said that incessant rainfall in the state has swept away two bridges in the sub-division.

It has subjected the people of the region with enormous grievances due to cutting off of connectivity in the area, said a release of the Joint Organizations’ Council.

The joint council consists of Zeme Naga Council Manipur, Village Authority Chairmen Council, Tousem Sub-Division, Zeme Leisiname Baudi, Manipur and Zeme-Pui Baudi, Manipur.

The bridges swept away are Bailey bridge over Makru River in between Tousem and Charamram on Tamenglong-Taousem-Haflong Road and Suspension Bridge over Makru River on footpath in between Namtiram and Tousem hq/range.

The statement said the Tousem HQs is totally cut off from Tamenglong HQ and Imphal due.

The council has further submitted a memorandum to the state Chief Minister through the Tamei MLA Z Kikhonbou Newmai calling upon the government for immediate intervention and avaoid public starvation and death and save the student’s career.

It has stated that the two bridges act as the only lifeline for the people of the sub-division with no other alternate routes in the area for transportation of essential commodities.
