IMPHAL, June 1: The inter village feud between two groups of Chadong village under Ukhrul district continued with an altercation around 12:30pm this noon leaving seven injured.

The seven injured including two alleged village authority members were provided first aid at the Ukhrul District hospital and later referred to the JNIMS for further treatment.

They were later escorted by a team of Ukhrul district police to Imphal in an ambulance.

According to a reliable source, the incident happened this noon around 12:30pm as both the groups were coming out from an alleged NSCN (IM) regional office somewhere in Ukhrul after a hearing.

The source has informed that the two groups that have been fighting on the issue of village headman were summoned by the National Judiciary Board of the militant outfit.

Even as 20 villagers each of the warring groups were gathered at the alleged regional office to bring a solution to the feud, the militant outfit postponed the hearing to a further date due to incessant rain, the source informed.

Meanwhile, one of the villagers who had brought the injured to the hospital informed IFP that even as he alongwith his other 19 colleagues were coming out from the regional office of the militant outfit, they were waylaid by members of the other group using deadly weapons including stones, sticks and knives.

He further identified the seven injured as Shimarei Kasar, 65 at present staying at Nagaram Imphal, Solomon Kasar, 42 son of (L) Ngashating Kasar, alleged village authority member Rikhan Kashung, 39 son of Tuishim, Robin Kasar, 52, son of Ramthar brother of James Kasar, alleged village authority member Paul Kasar, 65, Apem Kashung, 27 son of (L) Senivha Kashung and Ramsing Kasar, 78 all of Chadong village.

James Kasar and Wungnoyo Kasar have both been laying their claim over the village chieftain.

He further alleged that today’s hearing was fixed after the NSCN (IM) had failed to bring a solution to the issue during four earlier meetings at its camp Hebron in Dimapur.

He further condemned the NSCN (IM)’s intervention in the village dispute and the failure of the state police to act even after lodging a formal complaint.
