DESAM for improvement of academic atmosphere

IMPHAL, June 15: The DESAM on Friday submitted memorandums to the state Chief Minister, Education Minister and Commissioner of Higher Education urging them to improve the academic atmosphere with a view to improving quality education in all the colleges in the state.

Informing this to the media at its office, Wangmayum Islauddin, president, DESAM said the student body has put before the state Chief Minister, Education Minister and Commissioner of Higher Education a series of demands on improvement of academic atmosphere in the state through memorandums.

The demands include setting up of a model college with modern infrastructure in every district of Manipur in tune with the flagship programme of the MHRD; establishing of institutes for subjects like tourism and hospitality, film and animation and foreign languages and special care for DM College of Commerce where BBA course has been introduced.

It also demanded to set up more women colleges; to evolve a policy of yearly recruitment of vacant teaching positions in the colleges and to provide incentives to the dutiful teachers and take punitive measures against defaulting teachers.

DESAM demanded to give serious thought on upgrading the cluster of colleges under the historic DM College to the status of a state university in the similar manner in which the erstwhile Cotton College of Assam was converted to a full-fledged university.

The student body further demanded to provide minimum infrastructural support to the DM College campus. It demanded to encourage teachers to organize a number of seminars/conferences/workshop at national level.

Furthermore, DESAM demanded to immediately initiate the process of appointment of regular principals in colleges and to provide every college with well-equipped library having internet facility.
