IMPHAL, June 24: All India Women’s Conference (AIWC), Manipur State Branch organized a one day awareness program on ‘Disaster Mitigation and Preparedness’ yesterday at Konjeng Hajari Leikai at AIWC conference hall.

The program was conducted under the guidelines and financial assistance of All India Women’s Conference, New Delhi.

Around 85 participants including women social workers, youth leaders, NGO representatives, senior citizens etc attended the program. H Kangjamba Singh, ex- minister attended as the chief guest.

In the keynote address, K Binapani Devi, president of AIWC, Manipur branch stated that well planned and proactive measures need to be adopted to prevent loss of life during earthquake, floods, droughts etc.

She further stated that the suffering of the victims, mainly the underprivileged section needs to be highlighted for them to receive the attention of the concerned.

The approach needs to be propagated widely for holistic redress of disaster victims and further voluntary organizations can adopt specific measures to mitigate the challenges, she said.

Such awareness programs are held by the organization once in three months.
