Manipur assembly session begins

IMPHAL, June 27: The second sitting of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly budget session began today. The first business of the house was an obituary reference made to former member of the House, T Gougin, ex MLA of Singhat.

The Chief Minister, MLAs I Ibohanbi,Phungzathang Tonshing, Ginsuanhau, Paonam Brojen and Hill Area Committee Chairman, Chaltolien Amo gave their condolences to late T Gougin who passed away on June 6 last.

The Chief Minister in his eulogy mentioned that T Gougin was elected from Singhat Assembly constituency in 1974 and became the deputy chief minister then; he belonged to the Zomi community and was a hard working and industrious person.

He had served as the first LDC in the Tribal Department in 1955. He contested for the outer MP elections in 1962. Later, he became a lecturer at Churachandpur College in 1967. T Gougin during his lifetime had written four books and also established two newspapers, namely “Lead Tribune” and “Young Democrats”.

He also started the Tribal League and United Zomi Organisation.

Trinamool MLA, I Ibohanbi also in his acknowledgment mentioned that the House needs to show proper homage to the former members of the House. He said that a photo gallery should be placed in the house depicting portraits of Yangmaso Saija, Md Alimuddin, Moirang Koireng etc.

Phungzathang Tonsing also gave an account of his association with the late MLA. He said that T Gougin was a man of vision and carried out different activities during his eventful life.

MLA Paonam Brojen mentioned that he met T Gougin before entering politics.Then he was running a business and Gougin had come to purchase some of his wares. The late MLA had told him to acknowledge every costumer with humility as they are the ones who will bring him prosperity.

The Speaker of the House Th Lokeshwor requested the members of the House and observed a 2 minute silence in the memory of the departed.
