IMPHAL, June 22: The insurgent group Maoist Communist Party, Manipur (MCP) has asked the state government to make it public on the policy to be taken up by it for the farmers as normal monsoon rains have not arrived in the state as usual.
In a statement signed by its secretary, publicity and propaganda, comrade Nonglen Meitei, MCP said it will take up stringent steps on behalf of the farmers if the Agriculture Department does not announce the policy for the state farmers within 48 hours in the absence of normal downpours.
The statement also said both the Agriculture Department and Minor Irrigation Department should make public on all the preparatory plan and policies taken up to deal with the problem of possible drought and flood in the state during the monsoon.
Saying that farmers in the state are all frustrated because the government has failed to take up welfare programme and a long term policy for them, MCP blamed the government for the present imbalance environment owing to which a change in the temperature has been witnessed today.
It also alleged that degradation in the environment and ecosystem is due to establishment of large government institutions in paddy fields, lack of proper care of the forest land areas and many other reasons.
