IMPHAL, June 4: The Maoist Communist Party, Manipur (MCP) today said it locked the gates of Christ Jyoti School at Mantripukhri as the school failed to comply with its notice to refrain from religious activities that could directly influence the students.
Asserting that the Maoist does not want to plant bombs at private residences to threaten innocents, a statement signed by its secretary of publicity and propaganda, comrade Nonglen Meitei, MCP said the gate of Christ Jyoti was closed by the outfit as the first warning. An agreement was reached between the authorities of catholic schools and the outfit in the recent past, it added.
The school authorities agreed to stop all religious activities in the school campuses following which the outfit lifted the ban imposed on Little Flower School and Catholic School in a goodwill gesture. It had also demanded a written assurance in this regard.
Notwithstanding the demand of the outfit the Bishop House has not yet given the written assurance till now and that the Maoist considers it as a challenge to the identity, tradition and culture of this land, MCP said.
The Maoist also took up a movement against charging of higher fees for admission in educational institutions but it failed as the outfit is a small group, MCP said, insisting that it would never remain the same.
