IMPHAL, June 4: North East Support Centre and Helpline has welcomed the decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs to book the racial discrimination against people from North East India under Scheduled Caste and Tribes Prevention of Atrocity Act.
In a press statement, the NE helpline has said that the MHA has served notice to all states and Union Territories to follow the instruction. This move has been long demanded by NE Helpline and it is a milestone move, it said.
The offenders of racial attack and discrimination could be imprisoned upto five years with non-bailable and police who failed to act could be imprisoned upto one year, it continued.
The NE Helpline believes that if law enforcing agencies follow this order, the racial discrimination could be reduced and controlled.
The North East Support Centre and Helpline will follow how the law enforcing agencies follow this order, it ended.
