IMPHAL, June 29: A total of 250 athletes of the state who represented the state and won medals at the last 34th National Games held at Jarkhand will finally be given befitting awards.
According to a source, The North Eastern Council Secretariat has accorded the sanction of Rs 5.40 crores to the state director of YAS for further disbursement to sportspersons.
The sanction has been made under the scheme “Development of Sports Infrasrtucture and Promotion of Sports & Youth Activities in NE Region”.
It is also learnt that, gold medal winner athletes will be awarded Rs 3 lakhs, silver medalist with Rs 2 lakhs and Rs 1 lakh for the bronze medalist.
After a lull of more than a year, outstanding sportspersons who represented the state at the Jharkhand National Games,2011 will finally be acknowledged .
The state had won a total of 41 medals including 17 gold medals in the 34th National Games.
The source further maintained that the state YAS Director is to submit the Utilisation Certificate with progress report and photographs for the said amount of release through the state Planning department.
