IMPHAL, June 22: The Democratic Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has accused the state Education Department of not giving incentive awards to the higher mark scorers of standards ten and twelve for the year 2011-2012.

Although crores of rupees are incorporated in the state government budget, the incentive awards for 2011-2012 to be given to the students of standards ten and twelve who have obtained more than 60 per cent marks have not been handed over to them till date, DESAM said in a statement.

It alleged that such failure on the part of the authorities is due to indifferent attitude of the Education Department, particularly the Director of Education (S) who does not want to promote education.

Necessary actions should be taken up by the state Education Minister in this regard if he wants to bring change in education, DESAM appealed.

Since the year 2009, the then state government started to give Rs 1000 each to those students who got more than 75 marks in the classes X and XII exams to encourage them. For this, the state government adds Rs 2 crore in the budget of Education Department every year, it added.
