One feared dead in Jiribam

JIRIBAM June 27: Incessant rain in the past few days has flooded most parts of Jiribam sub division.

Several houses in the sub division including at Kalinagar, Babupara, Dibong, Sanakhong, Islamabad, Champanagar, Ningthembam, Patchao, Lalpani, Lakhipur, Kamranga and Hilgat have remained submerged in the flood.

Meanwhile, a 27 year old VDF personnel is also feared dead  at Kalinagar with his body yet to be recovered from the Jiri River.

The VDF personnel identified as Louriyam Sunil Singh, 27 son of L Surendrakumar Singh of Kalinagar failed to turn up from the river after he dived in to save his cousin brother who was drowning in the river. He however managed to save his cousin identified as Louriyam Jiten Singh, 36 son of L Rajen Singh.

Several relief camps have also been set up at different locations of the sub division to provide shelter to the affected people.

Around 40 houses of Khoichoithup has been swept away by the flooding Jiri River.

According to police source, around three individuals are missing in the flood, while another source has placed the number of missing individuals at six.

Several offices and schools including Jiribam FCI office have also been flooded.

Several student of the Jiri College had to return home without giving their TDC papers due the flood.

The Leishem Club, Kamranga and Kamranga Muslim Youth Club have jointly opened a relief camp at Jirighant Government Jr High School which is at present accommodating around 1300 affected people.

Relief camps have also been set up at Kalinagar ward No 9 and Islamabad LP School.

National Highway 53 trucks owner Assn. along with FCS dept,Tamenglong also distributed essential commodities to the flood affected people of the sub division.
