IMPHAL, June 12: Seven shops inside the compound of Medicinal Plants, Processing and Cold Storage Cooperative Society Limited at Lamphelpat in Imphal West have been reportedly dismantled by police without giving any prior notice to the society.
Condemning the police action, office bearers of the society told IFP that it is a registered body and it occupies an area of 1.935 acre. They said the society had been paying Rs 270 as annual tax to the government from 1975 to 1993.The society has also been regularly paying Rs 540 as annual tax from the year 1994 till the current year.
On March 7, 2011, the society organized a meeting to discuss about building a market shed in the area.
Resolution No-5-A of the meeting was approved by Registrar, Co-operative Society, government of Manipur on April 18, 2011.
The resolution was reaffirmed in another meeting of the society on January 16, 2012 and then the Registrar, Co-operative Society again approved it in February the same year. Later, on March 27, Khaithuilung Panmei, RCS laid the foundation stone for the proposed market shed, they further added.
However, an unfortunate incident happened in the year 2009 when the government tried to sell the same plot to Nabard with a price tag of Rs 4.5 crore in a clandestine manner, they alleged.
They added seven shops worth around Rs 10 lakh in the area were found dismantled by police without giving any prior notice to the society yesterday.
