IMPHAL, June 26: Manipur Science & Technology Council today organized the inaugural function of a five day long ‘Contact Programme for Talented School Girl Students’ at the training Hall, Art & Culture Building, Palace Compound.

The 6th edition of the contact programme is attended by 44 girl students from 11 schools of the state. One teacher each is accompanying three students from the 11 schools.

The inaugural function was attended by Principal Secretary (S&T) LP Gonmei, HOD Physics, Manipur University Prof S Dorendrajit Singh and MASTEC Director Th Surendranath Singh as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.

Senior scientific officer, MASTEC, Dr L Dinachandra said in the key note address that the programme aims at encouraging the students of the state towards science and its related fields.

He continued that the previous editions of the programme were held outside the state, however this year it is being held inside the state itself with the sole belief that the participants would benefit much from the experts in the field of science and technology of the state.

As part of the first day proceeding, the students present in the programme were demonstrated the IT infrastructures available at the DOEACC and Manipur University.

Addressing the inaugural function, chief guest LP Gonmei said, “The Manipur Science & Technology Council is a very small organization but it has been instrumental in developing and promoting a scientific environment in the state and encourage the students of the state towards science.

He continued that only girl students have been chosen for the programme as MASTEC is trying to encourage the girl students of the state in taking up science.

MU Physics Head of Dept, Prof S Dorendrajit Singh in his address said only science and technology can develop a country.

He would consider the programme a success only if the students could be directed towards a better future during their interaction with the experts.

The students should be educated on scientific ways so as to bring development in the society.

He however added that development only in the field of science is not enough but the students should also also work in other fields.

The time is such that the need for basic science, engineering and medical has risen and as such the students should work harder, he said.
