    IMPHAL, May 2: A PIB release has clarified on a news item published in the May 31 edition of the IFP under the headline “Family claims body”. 

    According to a PIB release, 22 Assam Rifles on May 28 provided genuine medical assistance to Laishram Ibochou Shigh (name as per identity card) was purely on humanitarian grounds. As per the contents of the news item, the name of the person has been altered to Leitanthem Dhiren Singh.

    The news item claims that the individual was present in Jiribam as he was suffering from belly swelling.

    Clarifying on the allegation that “motorcycle borne persons suspected to be AR” nabbed the individual, it said that there is no report/FIR of abduction case in the Police Station Jiribam till date, and 22 Assam Rifles troops operate in uniform and employ official vehicles with police representative at all times.

    It also said that the news item also brings out that there is nothing conclusive in the post mortem report and requires further Forensic examination. It is reiterated that the doctor at Community Health Centre, Jiribam also clearly endorsed that there was no “external injury” to the deceased when he was brought to the community Health centre, Jiribam.
