Sangai cash awards distributed

IMPHAL, June 6: A Sangai Memorial Cash Award distribution ceremony was held on Wednesday organized by the Kongkham Sangai memorial Trust at the residence of late K Sangai at Nambol Kongkham Makha Leikai in Bishnupur district.

The function was attended by Laishom Ibomcha, MLA of Keishamthong constituency, K Jadumani, founder president of Khongkham Sangai memorial Trust, Nambol and Th Radheshyam, Superintendant of Police, Bishnupr district as chief guest, president and guest of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Ibomcha said giving of meritorious awards to the students with an aim to encourage them in the state has increasingly become a wave in the last two-three years. Such encouragement to students is indeed a good step.

In an apparent attack to the state government, he said it is really unfortunate that there is a culture of having quota in recruiting Primary school teachers, police force and other government jobs, asserting that we should take up agitation against such practice.

He also said the matter with regard to a big gap which we have seen in between the private school and government school teachers will be taken up in the coming state Assembly session and that he will suggest on the formation of a monitoring body to look after the salaries received by private school teachers.

The number of the state seat quota in the Central Agriculture University is only 15 now and it has been assured by Union Minister Sharad Pawar to increase the quota by 25, Ibomcha informed.

He also generously appealed to all the needy students to come to his residence.

K Jadumani said it would be quite easy to bring a good society if we work sincerely, maintaining that we should respect to every professions.

At the event, three students from Nambol area who scored highest marks among students in the recent HSLC/CBSE exam were given Rs 7,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively.
